CampusPhillyOppsFairPIDC works with a number of related economic development organizations that complement PIDC’s mission of growing and retaining jobs in the City of Philadelphia. One such organization is Campus Philly, which fuels economic growth by encouraging college students to study, explore, live and work in the Greater Philadelphia tri-state region. Campus Philly is part of a larger, coordinated strategy in Greater Philadelphia to raise college attainment and grow talent in our region.

While Campus Philly may be known for helping college students make the City of Philadelphia their campus by encouraging them to explore everything from restaurants, cultural activities, to civic programs, it does much more than just inform students about fun regional events. The organization has made a niche for itself in connecting the region’s employers to its talented college students. With online internship fairs, networking, trainings and connections to business professionals, the development of helping undergrads, recent grads, and grad students find jobs has become a way for Campus Philly to show students they can live, work, and thrive here. Below are three ways Campus Philly is helping the area’s businesses connect to students this summer:

Philly StartUp Scholars: Campus Philly partnered with the Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania to create Philly StartUp Scholars, a targeted paid summer internship program that connects growing technology startups in Ben Franklin’s portfolio with talented college students to give them real-world entrepreneurial experience. This program received funding from the first round of Startup PHL Call for Ideas. Startup PHL is an initiative of the City of Philadelphia Commerce Department and PIDC. Based on research, paid summer internships increase the likeliness of students staying in the area post-graduation, an over-arching goal of Campus Philly. Opportunity Fair: Held this year on June 20th at the University of Pennsylvania, the fair is an in-person event for recent college graduates to meet employers who are recruiting for full-time and part-time positions and internships in a wide range of industries; graduate and professional schools will showcase their programs; and civic organizations will be seeking volunteers and new members. This event is free to all regional and returning young professionals looking to establish a career in the Greater Philadelphia region. If you are an employer with regional career opportunities interested in a table at the event contact or visit campusphilly.org/opportunity2013  to learn more.

My Philly Summer: My Philly Summer (MPS) was originated in 2011 by Campus Philly with intentions of encouraging interns to consider Philadelphia as a premier place to work and live after they graduate. Originally a series of intimate networking events spread out over the summer, this year Campus Philly will be engaging with employers in a more meaningful way throughout their summer internship programs.  This more concentrated effort includes a Philly 101 presentation introducing interns to the area, a fun summer party at a unique Philly location and a Networking 101 presentation teaching interns the ins and outs of making connections and building professional relationships. This year’s MPS is expected to engage over 350 interns working throughout the region.
